No Minarets! Swiss Get to the Point!

GENEVA – Swiss voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional ban on minarets on Sunday, barring construction of the iconic mosque towers in a surprise vote that put Switzerland at the forefront of a European backlash against a growing Muslim population.

Muslim groups in Switzerland and abroad condemned the vote as biased and anti-Islamic. Business groups said the decision hurt Switzerland’s international standing and could damage relations with Muslim nations and wealthy investors who bank, travel and shop there.

“The Swiss have failed to give a clear signal for diversity, freedom of religion and human rights,” said Omar Al-Rawi, integration representative of the Islamic Denomination in Austria, which said its reaction was “grief and deep disappointment.”  Swiss Don’t Grasp Diversity…Or, Maybe They Do!!!!

Why must a culture give into diversity? Why is every resistance to tolerance and the inevitable dilution of culture be categorized as a Right Wind fascistic movement? How about the common man and woman, who decide on their own that things have gone too far. Tolerance and diversity are safe havens for a cultural takeover. The extremists have no voice without the extremists.

  1. I have never experienced a minaret but I understand they are noisy things. On this alone they should be banned as have bell towers in some places.
Religiously: the muslim religion denies liberties to other religions in the countries where Islam holds sway I cannot really see that they can complain when a country places a similar restriction on them. Calls to prayer can surely be done by sms these days!
